We had lunch here, not knowing anything about the place and with no expectations. But it ended up being our best meal out in a long time! Service was friendly and casual, and the location itself is very pleasant, warm still airy. The menu consists of small dishes meant for sharing, so we ordered six between us two. All ranged between very good and great. Flavours perfectly balanced; sweet, savoury, citrus, chilli... The chef mixes cuisines in a very professional way. The octopus was probably our favourite- melt in your mouth texture, and so rich in flavour. We ordered a second portion, that's how good it was. We shared the Elvis Presley dessert, banana cake with a banana cream and strawberry jam. As with the mains, interesting but most of all incredibly tasty! Even though it was prime lunch time on a Saturday the place wasn't full- a surprise, given the quality of the food and the overall experience. But give it a month or two more, I would be surprised if you don't have to queue!

Small plate restaurants are commonplace nowadays but Foley's really manages to combine many different elements beautifully in each of its dishes. Ceviche Endive Taco A bit tricky to eat but the flavours and presentation are stunning. The taco itself is a endive stuffed with tuna and octopus with peanuts to give it a crunch. It leaves a nice tangy after taste Aubergine Best dish! The lime yoghurt dressing with pomegranate especially is to die for and there will be a bitter battle to see who manages to scrape the most off the plate. Spiced sweet potato fritters Sweet potato is being done to death everywhere but this was an unique take. The accompanying saffron curry needs to be a dish in itself. Lamb Rump This dish comes a close second. The meat is cooked perfectly and the combination of dhukka and herb hummus is spot on. My only slight complaint is the corn bread which felt a bit unnecessary and contributed nothing. Octopus Complimentary dish from the chef. I loved that the octopus was tender but the flavours were a bit of a miss. There was too much going on with the homemade Siracha sauce and it was a little too salty. The black sesame Mayo was intriguing though. Hake Just no. This was a huge let down particularly as all the previous dishes had been so exciting. The fish flaked off on your fork but it was bland. Absolutely bland. The small consolations, however, were the okra and chickpeas. Overall, most dishes were a hit. It's clear how much thought they have put into each dish and in fleshing it out and it comes through for the most part. My only big gripe was how slowly the food arrived, but service otherwise was very good. Definitely recommended!

Foleys, the sister of one of my all time favourite restaurant, The Palomar. The restaurant specialises in small dishes incorporating world flavours with heavy influences from flavours across the Silk Road. Decor was like someone had shoved a diner into an old farmhouse with its leather seats against the rustic brick wall that still highlighted its sawed off beams. It's was cool, relaxing with its use of candles and warm lighting although I wish music could have been turned down a notch. Lotus pops These were complimentary and very moreish. Lotus seeds roasted till they pop so had a similar texture as popcorn without the hard inner shells. They were very well spiced and being hollow they created this burst of flavour as they melted in your mouth. Ceviche endive tacos These arrived in pairs and were glorious. Firstly be prepared for a sharp hit of tanginess from the lime juice rolling off the endive. It was quite a shock until you start to appreciate the complexity of it from the hint of coconut milk and the use of miso for umami. It was a lovely complement to the tuna that was was fresh and flavourful as well as the tender octopus pieces. Radishes, cucumbers and peanuts gave it that lovely crunch and nuttiness and helped balance out the flavour. Cauliflower My tongue was buzzing continuously from all the range of flavours. It was very fragrant of spices, especially of garam masala. On the other spectrum was rich earthy flavours from the coconut pesto and nuttiness from the smoked peanuts. Umami and juiciness from the crushed tomatoes. Tzatziki helped balanced out the flavours as well as binding everything together in its smooth refreshing creaminess. Nori wrapped tuna A great representation of Japanese flavours. The tuna was high in quality, clean and fresh in taste with further flavour and seasoning given by the seaweed wrap. Shiitake mushrooms pushed its umami flavours further whilst the pear and yuzu mayo added a lovely zest to it. The combination of textures were wonderful, completed with edamame beans to give that refreshing crunch. Pork belly Slightly overdone on the sourness from the tamarind flavours, buttermilk and overload of citrusy notes from the pickled apples and papaya. The pork itself was lovely though once you put the sour ingredients aside and let the rich juicy savoury flavours run over. It was melting soft throughout being slow cooked, all very moist and succulent. Cured red onions added another dimension of sharpness balanced nicely with the gentle flavours of the cashews and puffed rice. To be honest it could have done with more sweeter notes to balance out the sourness. Sticky beef This beef tasted very offaly even when no offals were involved. Probably the daikon which sometimes can give that unpleasant smell of 'feet'. It was definitely an acquired taste which I was more accepting of. Other than that, I did enjoy how tender and rich and the beef was, just pulling away from my fork. The kaffir lime purée helped take some of that offalness away with its subtle citrusy notes and the best part being the cucumber som tam, very refreshing with its light dressing of tamarind and fish sauce. Fried shallots and peanuts added extra flavour. Lamb rump This dish was like riding through a rollercoaster of Mediterranean flavour. The lamb was fantastic, sweet and tender with the confit belly melting soft with its juicer flavours. But around that we were bombarded with very rich savoury flavours from the use of dukkah, an array of spices giving depth and complexity to the dish. More wholesome earthy flavours from the lovely thick herby houmous and then the crumbly creamy feta to balance out the dish. Cornbread added a lovely mellow sweetness and was deliciously moist and fluffy. Grilled octopus Probably my favourite dish. The octopus chunks were incredibly fresh, springy and very tender. They carried a nice smokiness to it being charred. But it was the black sesame miso that gave it that addictive rich nuttiness to it. Miso seasoned it with its complex umami. A side of pak choi to add a lovely light balance to the dish and finished off with peanuts for a lovely crunch Cornflakes crusted popcorn chicken Another highlight. Warm creative flavours coming together to create a harmonious balance. The chicken remained moist, packed full of flavour and had a nice bounce to. Contrasting that was an incredibly cornflake crust, thick yet light and crispy. It was addictive crunch my way into the chicken for moisture. Sweetcorn gave that burst of sweetness whilst pickled shimeji mushrooms for a bit of earthy tang and chorizo for depth and spice. Surrounding that was a lovely milky creamy mysterious sauce that made it into comfort food. Foley's deserve a praise. A fantastic use of ingredients and flavours to create such unique and creative dishes. Some dishes were clearly better than others like the octopus, chicken and cauliflower but even just those alone were worth going there to try
